I recently watched The Chosen Christmas Special: The Messengers. That's where this phrase is coming from. During the special a number of different Christian music artists performed and they were asked what must people know about Christ's birth. Everyone gave their own answer but in essence each person's answer was centered around LOVE. That is what people must know. They must know there is one God who created them and loves them. He cares about the depression they are facing. He cares about the loss they are experiencing. He cares about the loneliness they are in. He cares about their daily struggle to provide for their family. He cares about the sickness threatening their lives or the lives of loved ones. He cares about the demons in the closet that keep tormenting them. Why does He care? Because He LOVES us. And in order to get us back from places we strayed to; to get us back from the mess we got ourselves into; to get us back from unfortunate circumstances we did nothing to deserve; to get us back to the Father, Jesus Christ comes. Christ comes to show us The Way back home to the Father because THEY LOVE us. The meaning and purpose of Christ's birth actually rests in His death:

"For God so loved the world that He sent His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved." John 3:16-17
