PRAY for Afghanistan
Many of you are aware of how the Taliban invaded Kabul 1 week ago now and recaptured Afghanistan. We've all seen the news stories, images, and read about it on social media.
What many may not be aware of is the underground church in Afghanistan; it is not something that gets much mainstream media attention. It is the 2nd fastest growing church in the world, second to Iran. And it is among many of the churches in that part of the world facing persecution. The persecution will without doubt increase with the Taliban takeover.
As believers in Christ, we need to pray for our brothers and sisters. They are facing persecution that we here in the West have no concept of. I have linked below a short 5-minute video from a believer in Afghanistan; his appearance and voice are disguised. You can hear the sadness in his words about what has happened but also hear the determination to continue following God. I have also linked below a podcast from Jennie Allen posted yesterday, Aug 21, of an interview she had with a pastor in the Middle East discussing the underground church in the Middle East and specifically in Afghanistan. There is also a link below to an organization here in the USA that is helping disciple believers in the middle east. Please take time to listen to these believers. But more importantly please take time to PRAY for our brothers and sisters in this situation. Some are trying to escape/hide because they are on a hit list; others who haven't been found out are choosing to stay. But both are continuing to spread the Word. They all need our prayers, as does all of Afghanistan. Yes, Afghanistan needs our prayers as well. Pray that the believers would infiltrate into the dark places, that the Gospel would reach the lost, and that people would come to the Kingdom.
Hebrews 13:3 "Remember those in prison, as if you were there yourself. Remember also those being mistreated, as if you felt their pain in your own bodies." If we won't take the time to pray for our brothers and sisters, what does that say about us?
I also ask that we pray for our country. We as believers have become very complacent (I'm including myself). We need to wake up, turn back to God, and pray that we don't fall.
